This Luxury Camp in Namibia Is Surrounded by One of the Most Stunning Desert Landscapes on Earth

Namibia has some of the most stunning desert landscapes in the world, and was already one of the best places to travel this year even before the upcoming opening of Sonop Lodge.

Sonop Lodge, which opens July 1, is the latest in the growing luxury safari lodge industry in Africa. Located in Namibia’s southeastern corner, the lodge is the sister property of the luxury Omaanda Lodge located in the center of the country.

Sonop has 10 lavish tents, where guests can “live the life of yesteryear’s wealthy explorers from the early 20th century.”

Each tent takes on a British colonial design that harkens back to the 1920s, and sits on top of boulders to overlook the sandy landscape. The tents are furnished with antiques, ornate rugs, solid wood, and comfortable furniture.

The property also offers a separate cocktail & cigar lounge, a spa with two double treatment rooms, a fitness center, heated outdoor infinity pool, a gastronomic restaurant, communal area, stables, an open-air cinema, and a private airstrip. In addition, guests can enjoy morning yoga, electric bike tours, hikes, and stargazing using the lodge’s many telescopes.

Of course, the true appeal of Namibia has little to do with hotel amenities. Sonop Lodge is on a 13,800-acre property offering guests views of Africa’s amazing wildlife, including leopards, brown hyenas, jackals, foxes, and rabbits.

And, far away from city lights and the hustle of bustle of most people’s every day life, there’s even more to see at night — just look up.

Sonop Lodge opens on July 1, and is now taking reservations. According to Luxury Travel Magazine, the lodge’s parent company, Zannier Hotels, is offering special discounted rates through August 31 in honor of the grand opening. In addition, the company is offering a year-round 10-percent discount all bookings that combine stays at Sonop and Omaanda, plus an additional 50-percent off for every third night at each lodge.

Opening rates for one-bedroom tents at Sonop Lodge start at $645. Prices are per person, per night, and include accommodation, beverages (except premium brands and Champagne), and a daily scenic sunrise drive.
