Best Friends Animal Society, a no-kill pet shelter in Kanab, Utah, is opening a hotel.

The Best Friends Roadhouse and Mercantile, boasting accommodations specifically for pets, will open August 15. And people are welcome, too.

Each room has pet introduction doors, which ensure no one slips out; elevated furnishings so your furry friend won’t get trapped; and nooks with pet mattresses for sleeping. After a muddy stroll, your pet can hop in a pet washing station or explore the fenced-in park with a water feature. The hotel also offers pet walking and sitting services.
Best Friends Roadhouse and Mercantile is located five miles south of the Best Friends sanctuary. Between the hotel’s free shuttle to the site and its animal-focused programming, it’s the easiest place for people to stay when they come to visit, volunteer, or adopt.
“Every year more than 30,000 travelers visit Best Friends Animal Sanctuary,” said Brooks Bradbury, director of hospitality at Best Friends Animal Society. “These visitors need a lodging complex that will cater not only to them, but pets, too, including those who travel with their own furry companions and others who might be considering adopting from our Sanctuary.”

On any given day, the sanctuary is home to 1,600 animals with burros, rabbits, and pigs up for adoption alongside cats, dogs, and birds. Those who connect with a pet at the sanctuary can partake in a pet sleepover at the hotel to test out their bond and new pet ownership.
The hotel has 30 rooms, eight suites, and two two-level suites, while the onsite mercantile includes a complimentary vegan breakfast bar, grab-and-go items, beer and wine, and a retail space with branded merchandise. The new hotel’s central location makes it a perfect base camp for excursions to Zion, Bryce, and Grand Canyon National Parks. Room rates start at $159 to $299 a night.
